Transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily M member 4 (hTRPM4), also known as melastatin-4, is a calcium activated non selective cation ion channel that in humans is encoded by the TRPM4 gene. Presently many cardiac disorders have been linked to TRPM4 variants such as atrio-ventricular block (AVB) and Brugada syndrome (BrS). Nevertheless the physiological role of this channel in cardiac cells and the molecular links between these variants and the AVB or BrS are still poorly understood. Using electrophysiological approaches (patch clamp technique); I am currently investigating the role of this channel in physiological and pathophysiological conditions.
