• A 12-years long journey

From the start (2010) until its conclusion (2022), the NCCR TransCure advanced the frontiers of membrane transporter and ion channel research by combining the expertise in physiology, structural biology and chemistry.

National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR)

The National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) TransCure is an interdisciplinary research network of 20 research groups affiliated to the Universities of Bern, Zurich, Lausanne and Basel. All of them share the same vision:

"To apply excellence in membrane transporter research to the treatment of human diseases".

TransCure is one of the current NCCRs funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). NCCRs goal is to promote research projects in areas of vital strategic importance that benefit Swiss economy, society and public health.

  • The NCCR TransCure was established by Matthias A. Hediger (Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine) in 2009 to foster high quality basic science in the field of membrane transporter biology and to promote the development innovative therapeutic strategies.

Leading house is the University of Bern, currently with Hugues Abriel (Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine) as director and Jean-Louis Reymond (Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry) as deputy director.
